Summer Competitions

Morning to ya! I hope you broke through that Monday blues and are in full swing for your work week ahead!

I tried a new recipe last night that I will be sharing later in the week so look out for that! It’s a Winter meal that a few friends and I were fine with indulging in during the Summer months!

Speaking of Summer…

Within the last month I have signed up to run the Rock n’ Roll Marathon in Savannah, GA and have joined a Soccer League! Both are competitions that I am really looking forward to! The training for the marathon (which is in November) has just barely begun and my first official soccer game is next week! I think everyone has a little bit of competitiveness in them and that is why we LOVE playing sports or watching top athletes compete! As I thought about what I would be competing in this Summer I also began to think about the Summer sports that I am looking forward to watching on TV!

stanley cup

Although the trophy has been already claimed by the Blackhawks (booo!) the NHL Stanley Cup Tournament is always fun to watch! Hockey is such a high intensity game and it keeps your attention the whole time! I got into watching a couple games this year because my hometown team was in it until the very end! I was a bandwagon Lightning fan this year and I am not ashamed! I do find it a little bizzarre that this Winter sport holds their biggest tournament during the Summer months though….can someone explain that?!

The Women’s World Cup is going on this Summer and I have already tuned in to watch a few games already and plan on catching a few more! The men’s U.S. team put up a good fight last year, so these women have a lot to live up to this year! It seemed like Soccer came alive last year in America and I really want to see that continue! I absolutely love watching soccer! It is so incredible to watch talented soccer players use their teamwork and footwork to fight for a goal. It takes a lot more work to get a goal, more so than hockey or basketball, and that makes the celebration that much more sweet! I think the competition will be fierce and fun to watch this Summer!

Le Tour de France is a competition I have been watching since high school! My dad got me into it about five years ago! I first only started watching it for the crashes (kind of like what everyone does for Nascar), but then I started cycling on my own and realized the real talent that these men have to cycle for over a month straight! They ride over cobblestone, up and down mountains, and gain speed from 30mph all the way up to nearly 100mph! I really enjoy the competition and watching the cyclist ride through the beautiful European countryside! I am glued to the TV watching this race happen year after year! I cheer for Giant Shimano which is a German team that is always so close to winning but falls a little too short every year ! Marcel Kittel is also one of the main reasons I cheer for Team Giant; he is easily one of the best sprinters in the world right now and might I add pretty easy on the eyes… 😉

Below is a list of other sports that have some big tournaments going on this Summer!

NBA Finals

World Swimming Champs

Pacific Games .. Never heard of this, but it sounds Hunger Games-ish

US Open

Rugby World Cup <— There’s a sport I don’t understand!

What competitions do you watch during the Summer months? What sport do you like to watch throughout the year?

Weekend Recap!

Good morning! A lot of my weekend went un-pictured, I must be a newbie in this blogging world! However, I’ll do my best to provide an entertaining weekend recap!

Friday night was Girls Night! #GNO ❤

Once a month we try to gather girls from church, work, or the neighborhood to get together for dinner. All of us really look forward to girls night because it means getting to know people we wouldn’t have met elsewhere. Usually we try a new restaurant every month that is quick, on the cheaper side, and somewhat healthy. We choose a different restaurant to visit every month and this month we met at BurgerFi. I ordered a VeggieFi and enjoyed it amongst these wonderful ladies!

Afterwards a few of us went back to a friends house to watch the U.S. Womens National Team go up against Sweden in their second World Cup game! It ended up being a pretty slow game, but a little competition is always entertaining!

Saturday flew by! I decided to not set an alarm and sleep in! To me, getting enough sleep is just as important as exercising and eating right. And I try to listen to my body when its screaming at me for rest! I woke up a little later than normal, got a workout in and ran errands the rest of the day until I headed out for a pick-up soccer game, followed by a Mexican dinner at my house with friends!

Sunday my alarm went off at 5am to get up for my weekly long run with my sister. We spent the majority of our run catching up on each others weeks, and brain storming how we can best make use of our new hobby of blogging! My sister’s blog is called His Work Displayed, and you can check it out here!

After our run, I was off to church and enjoying a relaxing day filled with friends, rest, and some cooking preparations for the week!

I hope you had a fun and relaxing weekend!

Scents & Smells

This morning I went for a run around University of Central Florida! UCF has such a nice campus and because I didn’t go to UCF and went to a smaller school I am amazed by the massive stadiums, and all of the facilities that they have that my school was missing! But as I was running a familiar smell whipped through and it reminded me of the many times I visited my sister when she attended UCF. It was this very potent laundry scent. I remember always visiting my sister and walking on campus and smelling this scent! Isn’t it weird when you smell something and it instantly takes your mind to a certain memory? And who knew UCF had a particular smell?

The rest of my run I couldn’t stop thinking about what smells remind me of certain memories and here’s what I came up with!

-My family and I love vacationing on cruises, but I think all cruises have a certain stentch that isn’t the kindest smell. I think it’s from the cruises burning off the garbage as they are tugging along in the middle of the ocean. I’m not sure exactly, but there is a specific garbage scent that reminds me of cruising. Strange!

-The smell of the Atlantic Ocean reminds me of annual family reunions at the Jersey Shore! The breeze off of the Atlantic Ocean is one of the most refreshing scents to me! Maybe, because it take me to a relaxing time?

-I’m sure every college had this issue, but at PBA our cafeteria made everyone smell awful! You either smelt like stir fry, fried-anything, or like dirty dishes. Whenever I smell any of those scents I instantly revert back to the days when I had to walk around with an extra set of clothes to change into after lunch at the cafeteria! Here is a skit that my school made to give us students a little comic relief!

-A couple Summer’s ago I ate hummus every. single. day. Now every time I see or smell hummus I am reminded of Summer 2013 and how I gave it up for the whole next year!

-The smell of wool reminds me of my semester abroad. I studied in London, England during one of Englands coldest Winter in over 50 years! This Florida girl always was freezing. And I always had half of my face smothered into my wool scarf. My nose picked up that smell and now every time I am near wool I am reminded of that time I was frozen for 5 months straight!

-Chai instantly takes me back to my Summer in Africa. We sipped on Chai every morning and evening. I fell in love with it so much that I had up to 5 cups a day! Chai obviously has a very strong smell and anytime I am near it I remember one of the best trips of my life!

What certain smells take you to a particular place or memory?

Movie In The Park!

Last night was another Summery night to enjoy! I am dreading the still, humid and hot summer days that are promised in Florida, but surprisingly I haven’t felt this yet. So far this Summer, every night there is a cool breeze that flows through which makes time outside enjoyable!

Before we hop into details about the Movie In The Park, let me tell you about this dinner I have been loving lately!

I always feel a bit rushed when I come home from work and have plans in the evening, but this dinner came together so quickly that I think I will try to keep all of these ingredients on hand more often for those grab and go nights!

I put together a fish wrap with Trader Joe’s Mahi Mahi burger, Mango Peach salsa, Lettuce, Tomatoes, and a Whole Wheat Wrap! The burger takes less than 10 minutes to cook on the frying pan and I just rolled everything up and was all set!

This combo was spot on! I am a big fish lover and the mahi burgers were amazing! They didn’t taste like typical frozen fish dinners do, with that almost too prevalent oil taste which was well accepted. The Mango Peach salsa is new to me, but I thought of many more recipes that this number can go on in the future! It was a winning dinner all around!

Then I packed up my bags for the evening and was out the door!!

The city of Winter Park holds a Free movie on the Central Park lawn once a month- if it’s free it’s for me! Everyone comes out with picnic baskets, blankets, lawn chairs and camps out for an old time movie! It’s adorable and picturesque! ( I highly suggest it if you live in Orlando!)

Last night the movie selection was Batman, 1989. I am a fan of Batman,The Dark Knight so I figured the 1989 version, would be just as good! I realized how much movie-making has changed from then until now! We have come a longgg way!

We were all discussing afterwards and the plot did not impress us like the later versions do, and we felt like we had to figure out who the good guys and bad guys were for the first half of the movie. There were also parts of the movie that were awful and comical at the same time. For example, the soundtrack was almost completely all by Prince (bizarre choice) and the Joker just looked like a cheap Ronald McDonald. Now, even just the thought of the Joker gives me the heebie jeebies!

The city provided free popcorn, and fizzy drinks (unpictured) that I snacked on while watching Batman fight crime in Gotham City.

The movie didn’t end up starting until 8:45pm because the screen would not be able to display the picture until the sun had set, so we left before the movie ended so that we could all get to bed at somewhat of a reasonable hour!

Overall we enjoyed our night in the park with good company, and all got a good laugh at the 1989 movie making business!

Now I am off to work before the weekend officially begins! yippee!

Does your city hold any events during the Summer that you are looking forward to?

Current Workout Favorites

I am one who tries to stay discipline to routine because I know it is good for me, but it is also really challenging for me too! I try to be strict on going to sleep and rising at specific times. I try to eat and workout at a routine time. I put in the effort to give myself familiarity, but sometimes familiarity can drive me absolutely nuts!

I use routines because they work! I am promised to get results from the same workout every single time. So typically I find a workout, get the results I expect, get bored with my routine and then move on!

I change my workout routine every so often. I can’t think of a time in my life when I didn’t have a current workout that I was obsessed with! My life could be categorized in serious of routine-ness..In the past I have been in love with Crossfit, TRX, Tabata, Pilates, and there was even a WiiFit workout stage I went through (that was strange).

But here are my current work out favorites!

Fitness Blender!

This duo is the dream team! Fitness Blender is filled with workouts! You can find low impact workouts or high intensity workouts! There are short 10 minute workout or 45 minute workouts! I really believe that they have something for everyone on this site! They are great trainers who inform you of the muscles that you should be working during certain excercises. All of their interval workouts have a preview of the next motion you will be completing on the screen which allows you to never fall behind in the workout due to not knowing what’s ahead! (brilliant!)

Lately, I have been completing their 10 Minute Butt & Thigh Workout which is a slow controlled workout that works muscles I haven’t thought about in a while!

You can find all of their videos on their website or on YouTube!

Next up…

Bring Sally Up

With the goal of wanting to strengthen my arms, I have been completing the Bring Sally Up Push Up Challenge at least three times a week. And by completing I mean starting to do push ups, and moving to “girl push ups” about 30 seconds into the video and straight through to the end! (I’ll get there eventually, but for now, whatever works!) My sister, brother in law, and I have been doing this together. Which In my opinion, you definitely need a support team to accomplish this with you! I have also started completing the Bring Sally Up Squat Challenge which is a little less challenging but still makes for a great workout!

5 Minute Abs

This girl is super spunky and I am super impressed with her workouts and energy! While I feel like I am breathing through a straw during her workouts she is doing the same workout and not even having to catch a breath! Props, Rebecca!!

These are all of the workouts that I have currently been making a part of my routine!

If You Are What You Eat!

Good morning! I have a yummy lunch option for you today (and every day, if you’re like)!

If you are what you eat, then I would most definitely be this Balela Bean Salad from Trader Joe’s! ❤

I first had this salad a few months ago when I spent the day on the other side of Orlando and forgot to pack snack to hold me over until I got home! That is never fun because hangry-ness typically ensues and you end up spending money that you know could have been avoided! Luckily for me, I picked up this treat and it has changed my life ever since! <—I’m aware that this sentence is a little dramatic! 😉

Ever since I had this salad I have been re-creating it at home on a weekly basis! It is refreshing to eat, simple to make, and filled with healthy ingredients! Why would I not eat it everyday?!

Trader Joe’s is known for :

*No Preservatives
*No Synthetic Colors
*No Genetically Modified Ingredients
*No Trans Fats

…which makes for easy label reading! Once I ate the Balela Bean Salad, read the label and realized how simple the ingredients were I gave it a shot in my own kitchen!

Into the bowl went:

2 Cans of Garbanzo Beans
1 Can of Black Beans
1/2 Red Onion (Chopped)
Cherry Tomatoes (Halved)
3/4 Cup Apple Cider Vinegar
1/4 Cup Olive Oil
1 tsp Minced Garlic
3 tsp Lemon Juice
1 Cup Parsley (Finely Chopped)
Salt and Pepper (to taste)

I didn’t have parsley on hand when I made it (and typically make it without it!) Personally, I think it is great with or without the parsley!

I almost always have these ingredients in my kitchen cabinet so this is something I throw together on a weekly basis and eat for lunch or even dinner sometimes if I add chicken to it! Sometimes I eat it with just a fork and other times I scoop it with tortilla chips!

Enjoy! 🙂

What is your favorite Trader Joe’s product? Have you ever recreated it at home?

Blog Name and Inspiration

Blog Name

More Honey Please is a name that I came up with not too long ago as I was brain blog-storming about the idea of starting a blog. I have been inspired by the many healthy living blogs that I have followed for years now, and really felt like all of the great blog names were taken. It seemed it was  “slim pickens” for me when it came to blog names!

I really wanted a name that represented my sweet tooth, something that was honest to what I eat on a daily basis, and something that has a deeper meaning to the name as well! My blog title describes my faith and fondness of food. Find out a little more about my what my blog name means in my About section here! I didddd consider naming this blog More Chocolate Please but then I figured no one would take any health tips from a girl who is that fixed on chocolate!

Like I said earlier, I have been reading Healthy Living Blogs for years! I discuss them on the regular with my friends who follow the same blog, I try their recipes and workouts! I “know” their families and their pets. I know their beliefs and struggles. This community is unbelievable and I am really excited to be a part of it! Whether or not these bloggers know it, below are a list of blogs that have inspired me the most! They have taught me how to cook, train, and fuel my body well! They give me ideas for workouts, travel, fashion and keep me in the loop on all things cool!
